Shulou(Shulou.com)11/24 Report--
CTOnews.com, August 31 (Xinhua) the South Korean government has revised its previous power supply plan to increase the proportion of nuclear power from 23.9% to 32.8% and to reduce the proportion of renewable energy from 30.2% to 21.5% by 2030.
The Ministry of Industry, Trade and Resources of South Korea announced the 10th basic Plan of Power supply (draft). The plan forecasts electricity supply and demand over the next 15 years. At the heart of the plan is the ratio of nuclear power to renewable energy generation. The new plan overturns the previous government's policy of phasing out nuclear power and increasing the proportion of renewable energy.
However, there is no significant difference between coal-fired power generation and liquefied natural gas (LNG) power generation.
The 10th basic Plan proposes that by 2030, the proportion of coal-fired power generation will be 21.2%, 0.6 percentage points lower than the national power generation target of 21.8% in 2030. The basic Plan sets the proportion of liquefied natural gas power generation at 20.9% in 2030, 1.4 percentage points higher than the 2030 NDC target of 19.5%.
Officials say electricity demand is expected to peak at 117.3 GW in 2036.
The committee that makes the basic plan predicts that electricity demand will grow at an average annual rate of 1.4% from this year to 2036. Therefore, the target equipment capacity for 2036 is 143.1GW, which is a reserve ratio of 22 per cent in addition to the maximum power demand (1173 gw), and the confirmed facility capacity is set to 142GW, which reflects the continuous operation of 12 nuclear power plants (with a total capacity of 10.5GW) and 6 new nuclear power plants (with a total capacity of 8.4GW).
The Tenth basic Plan reflects the existing plan to phase out 26 coal-fired power plants (13.7 GW) and convert them to lng plants by 2036. Five new LNG power plants will ensure 4.3GW.
The Committee believes that by implementing the 10th basic Plan, South Korea will be able to meet the greenhouse gas reduction targets in the 2030 NDC plan. South Korea's greenhouse gas emissions target for 2030 is 149.9 million tons in the 2030 NDC plan. CTOnews.com learned that this was 44.4 per cent lower than South Korea's greenhouse gas emissions (269.6 million tonnes) in 2018.
