Shulou(Shulou.com)11/24 Report--
VMware Explore, the virtualization software giant's large-scale annual conference, opened in San Francisco this week, and Broadcom CEO Chen Fuyang unexpectedly appeared in person, reassuring many people who were worried about the failure of the $61 billion deal between the two sides.
At the event, there was little sign of Broadcom participation until the keynote speech on the second day of the conference. VMware CEO Rangarajan Raghuram welcomed Chen Fuyang, who was seated in the audience, at the start of his speech.
Speaking about the deal with Broadcom, Laguram said: "In May of this year, we announced our next major transition event. Since then, I've spent a lot of time talking to Fuyang Chen and his team to kick-start VMware's next great innovation phase. "
According to Raghuram, Chen Fuyang and most VMware employees attended the meeting in person, and most Broadcom employees watched the event live.
Since Broadcom representatives were not on the list of speakers at the event, there has been constant speculation about what form the company will appear in. Many VMware employees and customers wanted more details about the acquisition, but Broadcom's absence was unsettling for many.
On the first day of VMware Explore, when people saw that there were not even Broadcom employees or booths, there was even more concern about whether the deal would succeed.
Earlier reports said customers were "very concerned" about Broadcom's acquisition and thought the deal could close by 2023, when Broadcom could raise its offer to them. In past acquisitions, Broadcom has also bought companies at high prices, then slashed costs and raised prices for products or services to boost profits.
Especially after Broadcom announced plans to focus only on its top 600 customers, many smaller companies worry that the VMware acquisition will crowd them out. VMware was known for customer service.
"Acquisitions like this usually stop innovation," one IT source who works with VMware's smaller oil customers said at the conference. Several other smaller customers said they feared they might be forced to switch to a larger vendor like Microsoft when the acquisition was completed, even though they preferred VMware services.
"While we use Microsoft services in some ways, VMware goes out of its way to serve customers large and small," said IT director for Portland Technology Bureau. Microsoft will answer our questions, but they don't need us, we're just their little customers. "
But the oil industry IT person said seeing Chen at the meeting made him more optimistic about the acquisition's success, calling it a good sign. He said numerous statements made during the keynote speech also showed VMware was still serious about continuing to innovate.
