According to public information, Kazuo Inamori was born on January 21,1932 in Kagoshima City, Kagoshima Prefecture, Japan. He graduated from the Engineering Department of Kagoshima University. At the age of 27, he founded Kyoto Ceramics Co., Ltd.(now Kyocera), and at the age of 52, he founded Second Telecom (formerly known as DDI, now known as KDDI, the second largest communication company in Japan after NTT), both of which entered the world's top 500 companies in his lifetime. According to public sources, Kazuo Inamori is the only person in the world who has founded two Fortune 500 companies so far.

In 2010, at the age of 78, Kazuo Inamori was ordered to rescue the endangered JAL from the brink of bankruptcy, which is also his most famous "masterpiece."
