CTOnews.com, Aug. 30, according to Reuters, Ericsson said on Monday that it would gradually reduce its business activities in Russia in the coming months.

Ericsson announced an indefinite suspension of operations in Russia in April, but its rival Nokia went further, saying it would withdraw from the country altogether.

"by the end of this year, the vast majority of our employees in Russia will leave Nokia and we have vacated all our offices," a Nokia spokesman said on Monday. we will retain our presence in the country until the legal closure is completed. "

Ericsson gave Russian employees paid leave earlier this year and set aside about $95 million (656 million yuan) for asset impairment and other special costs associated with the move in the first quarter. the company has about 400 employees in Russia and said it would provide financial support to those affected.

Nokia, which employs about 2000 people in Russia, said its remaining activities in Russia were related to limited maintenance of critical networks to meet its contracts and humanitarian obligations.

CTOnews.com learned that the Russian newspaper Merchant first reported Ericsson's exit and said some of its support staff would be transferred to a new company set up by Russian executives. Ericsson did not comment on the new company.

With the full withdrawal of Ericsson and Nokia from Russia, the country's mobile operators MTS and Tele2 will rely more on Chinese companies such as Huawei and ZTE, Reuters said.
