Nokia, which employs about 2000 people in Russia, said its remaining activities in Russia were related to limited maintenance of critical networks to meet its contracts and humanitarian obligations.

CTOnews.com learned that the Russian newspaper Merchant first reported Ericsson's exit and said some of its support staff would be transferred to a new company set up by Russian executives. Ericsson did not comment on the new company.

With the full withdrawal of Ericsson and Nokia from Russia, the country's mobile operators MTS and Tele2 will rely more on Chinese companies such as Huawei and ZTE, Reuters said.
