Beijing, Aug. 30 (Beijing time)-India has no plans to restrict the sale of foreign smartphone brands with prices less than $150 (1036 yuan), officials from India's Ministry of Information Technology said on Monday, following reports that India may impose restrictions to promote the development of domestic mobile phone manufacturers.

When asked if there were any plans to restrict the sale of equipment under 12000 rupees ($150,150) to Indian brands, the official told reporters: "there is no such proposal in our department." Indian brands have room. It does not exclude foreign suppliers or foreign brands, "he said.

Chinese mobile phone companies account for a large portion of entry-level smartphones, which are popular with users in India, the world's second-largest mobile market.

Earlier, it emerged that India was planning to limit sales of low-cost Chinese smartphones in an effort to revive the prospects for manufacturing in India.

It is understood that since 2020, India has stepped up its censorship of Chinese companies, banning more than 200 mobile applications provided by Chinese enterprises.

Also in July, India's tax Intelligence Agency accused OPPO of evading tariffs of nearly 43.9 billion rupees (3.71 billion yuan) and demanding taxes.

Two Chinese handset makers have denied the charge.
