The official version of Wine 7.16 has been released with a number of new features and fixes that will affect Steam Deck, HoloISO and Chimera OS gamers. Wine introduces support for Wow64 in X11 drivers, and Wow64 is Microsoft's 64-bit compatibility layer for 32-bit applications. CTOnews.com has learned that if you are a user of Steam Deck game mode, this change will not have an impact when these changes are merged into Proton upstream.

On the game side, the new version of Wine fixes Bug that crashed in the "Street of Saints" (Saint'sRow) game due to an error called "unimplemented function kernel32.dll.SetProcessDefaultCpuSets", but the community has found a solution. Fixed false positives related to anti-cheating detection in Wonderland Legend (Ragnarok Online). The "Alloy equipment 5: phantom pain" (A Metal Gear Solid V:Phantom Pain) bug has been fixed and can now go beyond Chapter 1. Finally, the fix to the "Interstellar Citizen" (Star Citizen) prevents the starter from freezing due to heap space problems. For other non-game Windows-y-related content has also been a number of fixes.
