The first stage of the project can store up to 100000 kilowatt-hours of electricity when the energy storage capacity is 50MW / 100MW. Its ability to participate in the AGC frequency regulation of the power grid is equivalent to that of two 600,000-class coal-fired units. It is a large-scale electrochemical energy storage demonstration power plant with centralized layout, centralized regulation and independent regulation.

The energy storage project of Zhejiang Energy Xiaoshan Power Plant is like a giant "portable battery" on the side of the power grid. after it is put into operation, it will effectively promote the replacement of the main energy of Zhejiang Province from fossil energy to renewable energy. provide a new solution for the consumption of wind, light and other renewable energy in Zhejiang power grid, and greatly improve the stability of the power grid. After the completion of the project, a charge can last for 2 hours to provide a maximum of 50, 000 kilowatts of power, and up to 4 times of charge and discharge throughout the day, which will better promote the consumption of new energy and enhance the safe and stable operation level of the power grid.

The project uses the existing facilities and sites of decommissioned units in China for the first time, and starts construction in November 2021. It adopts lithium iron phosphate battery energy storage system and full temperature monitoring mode of battery unit, that is, to monitor the temperature of each battery unit. This is the first application in China. Full temperature monitoring can achieve accurate early warning of thermal runaway of each battery, which can buy time for fault treatment. In addition, compared with the prefabricated outdoor layout, the project can save 0.67 hectares of land resources and 20% of power consumption, providing a sample case for exploring large-scale energy storage power stations as independent subjects to participate in the operation of the electricity market.
