Beijing, Aug. 29 (Xinhua)-- Apple may be applying for a potential name for its much-anticipated hybrid reality headset as part of the tech giant's first new product category in years, according to trademark application documents.

Apple has filed trademark applications for "Reality One", "Reality Pro" and "Reality Processor" in the United States, European Union, United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Saudi Arabia, Costa Rica and Uruguay. Although Apple itself did not submit the documents, it followed the past model, including relying on law firms that the company had previously hired to lock in the brand.

Records obtained by foreign media show that the new trademarks are registered under the name of a shell company called immersive Health Solutions Co., Ltd. (Immersive Health Solutions LLC), which was established in February this year. The company itself is owned by Corporation Trust Co., another shell company in Delaware. Registered, such companies are usually used to submit documents by companies that want to avoid being discovered. The same company is also used in the trademark application for Apple's headset system RealityOS.

If Apple is indeed the behind-the-scenes applicant for these trademarks, then "Reality One" and "Reality Pro" may be the theoretical name choices for new products. The company may also register multiple names in case a series of devices are released in the future. Apple often refers to high-end products as "Pro", including iPhone 13 Pro, iPad Pro and MacBook Pro. It has also added "One" to previous products, such as its Apple One subscription package.

These trademark applications have not yet been approved and there is no guarantee that these names will be used in Apple's future products. Apple is expected to launch its first headset in 2023, targeting the high-end market. The headset is expected to combine virtual reality and augmented reality, which will allow the company to compete more fiercely with Meta, the industry's leading supplier of VR devices. The last time Apple introduced a new hardware category was the Apple Watch seven years ago.

An Apple spokesman declined to comment on the documents.
