August 26, according to foreign media reports, the California Air Resources Commission issued a new regulation that will ban the sale of new fuel cars from 2035 and phase out the medium-term goal year by year.

Currently, 15 states, including Colorado and Minnesota, have complied with California's previous zero-emission car regulations.

In addition, the new rules have a medium-term target that from 2026, 35 per cent of new passenger cars, SUV and small pickups sold in California will have to be zero-emission vehicles, increasing year by year, reaching 51 per cent of all new car sales by 2028, 68 per cent by 2030 and 100 per cent by 2035. However, these regulations will not affect used cars and will come into effect in 2026.

Liane Randolph, chairman of the California Air Resources Board, points out that pollution from cars and light trucks will be reduced by 50 per cent by 2040.

Alex Stark, a spokesman for California Governor Gavin Newsom Newsom, said the rule resonated with most people and was not opposed by car companies, a sign that the companies themselves are embracing the transition to zero-emission vehicles, and several companies, including Ford and GM, have announced ambitious plans to move to zero-emission cars, trucks and SUV.

In addition, California has the support of the Biden administration, which restored California's ability to set local vehicle emission standards earlier this year. The Trump administration had previously lifted California's exemption in 2019.
