Beijing, August 28 (Xinhua) at 8:33 EDT on August 29 (20:33 Beijing time on August 29), NASA will carry out the Artemis-1 mission, ushering in a new era of lunar exploration.

Since the last lunar mission of NASA Apollo 17 in 1972, no American astronaut has landed on the lunar surface. Next Monday, NASA will begin a new journey to explore the moon, testing for the first time the most powerful rocket in US history: the Space launch system (SLS). The test flight will be the first comprehensive test of the space launch system and the Orion spacecraft, with the main goal of testing the Orion spacecraft and its key components, such as heat shields and communications systems when re-entering the Earth's atmosphere.

In order to better understand human life in the spaceship, NASA installed a dummy in the spaceship. The mannequin, named Moonikin Campos, named after Arturo Campos, an electrical engineer from the Apollo 13 era, will be equipped with sensors to measure radiation and "vibration and acceleration" that humans experience during flight, NASA said.

The Orion spacecraft will reach its initial orbit less than nine minutes after takeoff. About two hours after launch, the spacecraft will be separated from the core stage of the super launch system, which will then splash down in the ocean with solid rocket boosters. During the four-to six-week mission, Orion will fly 280,000 miles (450000 kilometers) and make several close overflights of the moon before setting at sunset in California coastal waters on October 10. NASA said it was the farthest spaceship used by humans. The Artemis 1 mission will also put 10 cubic satellites into orbit, each with specific scientific and technological goals.
The total cost of the space launch system is more than $20 billion (about 137 billion yuan) and is non-reusable. So, where on earth is it expensive? Where's Qiang? Why is this flight so important?
The following is a detailed interpretation of the space launch system in the form of pictures and text:
If successful, the Artemis 1 mission will help prove whether Orion, its heat shield and other systems can eventually safely send astronauts to the moon and return. It will also test space launch system rockets and systems that support launch and re-entry.
If NASA fails to launch the rocket within the two-hour window next Monday, it will try again on September 2 and September 5. If it is not launched on any of these three days, the rocket will have to return to the spacecraft Assembly Building (VAB) to re-conduct critical tests, including the most important flight suspension system. After that, the next launch window will be between September 20 and October 4, and another launch window will be between October 17 and October 31.
After carrying out the Artemis 1 mission, NASA plans to carry out the Artemis 2 mission in 2024, which will be manned by astronauts. Then comes the Artemis 3 mission, which will be carried out in the middle of the decade. In this mission, NASA's goal is to achieve a woman and a person of color walking on the moon. On this final mission, SpaceX's starship will carry astronauts on the final leg of the journey from lunar orbit to the lunar surface as part of a $2.9 billion contract won by the company in April last year.
