Beijing, Aug. 28 (Xinhua) Facebook, the world's largest social networking platform owned by Meta, has agreed in principle to settle a lawsuit in federal court in San Francisco to compensate third parties, including Cambridge Analytics, for accessing users' private data, according to a court document.

The financial terms were not disclosed in Friday's filing, which asked the judge to shelve the class action for 60 days until the plaintiff and Facebook's lawyer finally reached a written settlement.

The four-year lawsuit alleges that Facebook violated consumer privacy laws by sharing users' personal data with third parties, such as Cambridge Analytics, a now-defunct British political consulting firm. Facebook has said its privacy practices are consistent with its disclosures and "does not support any legal claims".

Facebook and his lawyers from Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher did not immediately respond to requests for more details of the settlement. Keller Rohrback did not comment on the two law firms representing the plaintiffs, while Bleichmar Fonti & Auld declined to comment.
