CTOnews.com August 27 news, yesterday China's wafer manufacturing leader SMIC issued an announcement, with Tianjin Xiqing Economic Development Group Co., Ltd. and Tianjin Xiqing Economic and technological Development Zone Management Committee jointly signed and signed the "SMIC Tianjin 12-inch wafer foundry production line project cooperation framework agreement", the proposed construction of a 12-inch wafer foundry production line project.

According to the agreement, the proposed 12-inch wafer foundry production line has a planned production capacity of 100,000 wafers per month and can provide wafer foundry and technical services for different technology nodes from 28 nm to 180 nm. The products are mainly used in communications, automotive electronics, consumer electronics, industry and other fields, to be located in Xiqing Development Zone Saida emerging Industrial Park. At the same time, SMIC will set up a wholly-owned independent legal person company in Xiqing Development Zone with a registered capital of US $5 billion and a total investment of US $7.5 billion (about 50.59 billion yuan).

In this project, Tianjin Xiqing Economic Development Group Co., Ltd. and the Management Committee of Tianjin Xiqing Economic and technological Development Zone, agreed to provide SMIC land support, project industry support, project talent support, project infrastructure support and other project support.

SMIC undertakes that Xiqing New Company will participate in the bidding of the project site in accordance with the agreed conditions and procedures for the construction of the project. The company also said that the project to be invested in this agreement is in line with the company's development plan and is conducive to the company's long-term development. The project funds come from the company's own funds and self-raised funds, which will not have a significant impact on the company's financial situation and operating results, and there is no harm to the interests of the listed company and all shareholders.

In China, SMIC and other domestic semiconductor manufacturing companies are greatly expanding their production capacity. Prior to this, in addition to the continued expansion of existing production lines, SMIC is also building new 12-inch production lines in Beijing, Shenzhen and Shanghai. The planned Tianjin Xinjing Wafer production Line is another 12-inch production line built by SMIC.

On the same day, SMIC disclosed its semi-annual report that operating income in the first half of 2022 was 24.592 billion yuan, an increase of 52.80% over the same period last year; net profit from its parent was 6.252 billion yuan, up 19.30% from the same period last year; and basic earnings per share was 0.79 yuan.

CTOnews.com has learned that SMIC currently has three 8-wafer fabs and three 12-wafer wafer plants in Shanghai, Beijing, Tianjin and Shenzhen.
