In a podcast on Thursday, Zuckerberg said Meta's next-generation VR headset would offer new features to help users experience a "social presence." For example, the new headset will integrate more advanced eye and face tracking features. With these features, when users smile or frown, their digital personas in the virtual world will do the same.

"Nonverbal communication conveys more information than verbal communication when people communicate with each other," Zuckerberg said. According to him, digital people in the virtual world of the future will behave more vividly and interactively.

Although Zuckerberg did not mention the name of the virtual reality headset, he is likely referring to the product currently codenamed Project Cambria. The headset will cost at least $800, much more than the current Meta flagship Quest 2, which costs $399 to $499 for different models. However, Meta has also recently raised the price of Quest 2 due to rising logistics and production costs.

Meta has continued to invest in virtual reality and related technologies in recent years to drive the evolution of computing technology and human-computer interaction to virtual reality. However, it could take years for the company to recoup the huge losses related to the metauniverse at Reality Labs, its virtual reality division. In 2021, Reality Labs had revenue of $2.27 billion, but a net loss of $10.19 billion.

In the podcast, Zuckerberg also compared Instagram's user experience to rival Twitter. Twitter is currently engaged in a legal battle with Tesla CEO Elon Musk over the acquisition. Zuckerberg said: "On Twitter, everyone is very smart and says very deep things, but many of them are very sharp. I find it definitely disturbing to spend a lot of time on Twitter. "
