Beijing, Aug. 26 (Xinhua) in an interview with Joe Logan experience, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg was asked whether Meta's smart glasses would cause potential privacy problems and defended the company's products, while admitting that the glasses could be used for secret photography.

The smart glasses, created by Facebook and Lei Peng, were launched in September 2021 and start at $299. A small voice-activated camera and microphone are equipped on both sides of the glasses frame, allowing users to take pictures or record videos.

During the exchange, the host questioned Zuckerberg whether such a "miniature camera" would bring privacy issues, "what if people could just start shooting?" Zuckerberg retorted that the product has a flash on one side that flashes when recording videos or photos, and stresses that "this is a very important part."

However, the host continued to ask, "what if you put duct tape on the flash?" Zuckerberg acknowledged the possibility. "I think so in theory."

Although the flash will flash during shooting, Zuckerberg also said that the tape may indeed interfere with the camera on the glasses. He also stressed that the company is "continuing to develop new versions" of glasses.

Meta could not immediately be reached for comment.

Meta, which owns Facebook and Instagram, is no stranger to privacy issues. Recently, the company was boycotted by US netizens for handing over Facebook's private information to police investigating suspected illegal abortions.
