CTOnews.com, August 25, WDDM (Windows Display Driver Model) is the driver model of Microsoft's Windows Vista system. Each update will lead to a major update of Windows, such as Windows 7 to Windows 8, Windows 8 to Windows 8.1.

The Windows 11 22H2 major version update that will be launched this fall is about to usher in WDDM 3.1.At present, AMD, Nvidia and Intel are all preparing for drivers based on WDDM 3.1.

According to the clues found by Twitter user Xeno, the next generation display-driven model WDDM 3.2 has also appeared. In Build 25188, a preview of Windows 11 Dev launched today, the string of WDDM 25188 appears inside the DirectX Diagnostics tool (dxdiagn.dll).

It is not clear what graphics improvements WDDM 3.2 will bring, possibly with the next big version of Windows 11, or directly for Windows 12.

CTOnews.com has previously reported that Windows Central sources say Microsoft now plans to release a major version of Windows every three years, and now plans to release the next version (tentatively known as Windows 12) in 2024, three years after the release of Windows 11 in 2021. This means that the originally planned 2023 version of Windows (codenamed Sun Valley 3) has been cancelled.

In the 22H2 internal version of Windows 11, Microsoft provides the AMD pre-released 31.0.12000.20010 UWP driver based on WDDM 3.1, which comes with a 22.05 OpenGL beta driver, which can greatly improve the performance of AMD graphics cards in OpenGL applications.

Intel will end its support for its 10th generation (desktop Comet Lake and mobile Ice Lake) and older processors in this release. As of July 27, 2022, Intel will transfer generation 6 to generation 10 processor graphics cards and related Intel Apex, Pentium and Cy Young processor graphics cards to older software support models. Intel will only provide software support for key fixes and security vulnerabilities for affected products, and software updates for these products will be updated on a quarterly basis or as needed with software releases.
