Thanks to CTOnews.com netizens Wu Yanzu in South China for the delivery of clues! CTOnews.com, Aug. 25, Android Automotive 13, an Android car operating system, has been released with improvements in camera, frame, connectivity, power, privacy, sensors, telemetry, user management and vehicle integration.

Android Automotive is Google's Android-based in-car entertainment operating system. Compared to Android Auto, which just projects App and content from the phone to the car, Automotive is more independent, with its own Play store and music playback functions.

CTOnews.com learned that Android Automotive 13 brings UWB ultra-wideband support to users and provides multi-anchor support for positioning UWB tags with an accuracy of 10 cm.

UWB UWB is a short-range wireless standard that provides accurate tracking and location of Internet of things devices as well as high-speed data transmission on the high-frequency radio spectrum. Compared with Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and NFC, UWB has many advantages and is widely regarded as the next major trend in the field of wireless technology.

The update for Android Automotive 13 is as follows: camera

Android camera2 API . Allows third-party consumer applications to access one or more in-car cameras simultaneously without affecting the performance and behavior of the extended View system (EVS).

Enumerates camera devices by relative position. Allows the client to enumerate and open the camera device (or video stream) based on the relative location, as well as hardware details hidden from the client (for example, the device node name).

EVS hot plug event. Add notification and handling of hot-swappable cameras.

Automobile frame

The main line of automobile frame. A new automotive framework module has been added, including automotive API and automotive services. This makes it possible to update the car stack independently of the Android platform version.

Driving safety zone support. Allows the application to specify areas to ensure driving safety, and allows the system to specify areas and provide temporary exemptions.

Migrate the vehicle HAL from HIDL to AIDL. HIDL HAL is still supported, but only new attributes should be added to the new AIDL vehicle HAL.

Greater payload and batch calls are supported in VHAL. VHAL can now pass a larger payload through shared memory. Batch calls allow multiple requests to be sent more efficiently.

The navigation metadata of the cluster is populated. This feature uses additional fields to extend the navigation status protocol buffer in the navigation status API to describe navigation metadata.

Touch mode. In Android 13, notifications are now separated from focus events. In Android 12 and earlier, focus and touch modes were represented by the same C++ native FocusEvent. The touch mode change is now represented in a new event TouchModeEvent. This new native event is scheduled for all existing windows, with or without focus.

Connectivity

Enable Ultra Wideband (UWB). Provide multi-anchor support for positioning UWB tags with an accuracy of 10 cm.

Bluetooth mainline integration. Turn Bluetooth into a module to support updates independent of the Android platform version. With Google's continued support, hidden API will be migrated to the system API.

Gabledorsch . A newer version of the Bluetooth stack is enabled to support car use cases.

Vehicle networking. Add control over Ethernet-based networks, including IP configuration, network functions, dynamic management of application access control lists, and the ability to dynamically connect and disconnect the network.

Refer to TCU. It is easier to integrate external telematics ECU with Android through Telephony HAL.

Projection support. A new API has been added to make VendorElements part of the generated hostapd AP configuration.

The API used to get the Wi-Fi channel and country code list when Wi-Fi is turned off.

Power source

Supports suspending to disk. The power off mode saves the contents of the RAM. Supports suspending to disk and suspending to RAM.

Control the shutdown process. Allow the supplier to take timely action before and after the garage mode.

Privacy

The license model of the car. Changes to the permissions model strike a balance between safety, privacy and user experience while driving.

Decision to remind you of your license after driving. Remind users who have stopped to make permission decisions while driving.

Recent licensing decisions. The most recent permission decisions are displayed in the privacy settings, enabling users to change permission decisions.

The privacy dashboard of the car. Allows users to view recent application permission usage in privacy settings, including event timelines for sensors such as locations, microphones, and cameras, and sub-properties of GMSCore usage.

Sensor

New sensor types in the Android sensor framework. New inertial measurement unit (IMU) sensor types have been added to the restricted axis and heading to support different sensor configurations and navigation use cases.

Telemetry

OEM telemetry. Enables OEM to configure and collect in-vehicle infotainment (IVI) and vehicle data using an Android-based infotainment system.

User management

Improved user lifecycle event management. New user lifecycle filters have been added to improve performance and simplify client code.

Vehicle integration

New VHAL property. New attributes have been added for fog lights, electric vehicle charging, trailers, vehicle weight and wheel tick.
