Shulou(Shulou.com)11/24 Report--
CTOnews.com, August 25 (Xinhua) according to a Counterpoint Research research report, shipments of Q2 smartphones in Vietnam fell 1% to 3.2 million units in 2022 compared with the same period last year. Shipments of high-end smartphones (more than $400, or 2736 yuan) rose 75% from a year earlier. Of all the high-end smartphone brands, Apple's iPhone shipments increased by 115% year-on-year. Shipments of most of China's major mobile phone brands are falling in Vietnam. With the recovery of the offline mobile phone market, major mobile phone brand manufacturers have opened more retail stores.
Smartphone shipments in Vietnam remained stable in the second quarter of 2022, falling 1 per cent year-on-year to 3.2 million units, according to Counterpoint's latest monthly smartphone channel share tracking report. Newly released phone models and consumers' preference for high-end models led to an increase in mobile phone shipments in the second quarter.

Consumer demand for entry-level smartphones is moderate this quarter. Shipments of high-end smartphones have grown sharply along with smartphones with games as the selling point. Shipments of high-end smartphone segments (> $400, or 2736 yuan) increased in 2021 compared with Q2 in 2022.
Samsung rose modestly, with shipments up only 3% year-on-year. Considering that it is stuck in the quagmire of excess inventory, it has to cut production at its factories in Vietnam. Samsung has launched mid-and low-end phone models in the An and M series, a move that helps Samsung retain its market share. Samsung's high-end S-Series is one of the best-selling models in the high-end mobile phone market this quarter.
OPPO's new mid-range models have performed well in the market, making it the only Chinese mobile phone maker with a 25 per cent year-on-year increase in shipments. On the other hand, mobile phone shipments fell year-on-year as other companies such as Xiaomi, vivo and realme struggled to cope with the higher backlog of inventory.
CTOnews.com learned that the report pointed out that because Vietnamese prefer high-end smartphones, Apple iPhone shipments rose 115% year-on-year this quarter, the highest growth of all mobile phone brands. Apple is expanding its retail stores in Vietnam through official distributors, a move that will help Apple expand its customer base.
In the 2022 Q2, Vietnam smartphone market, Samsung ranked first with 38.4% share, OPPO with 20.7%, Apple with 15.4%, Xiaomi with 13.2%, vivo with 4.4% and other shares with 7.8%.
The smartphone market in Vietnam is dominated by the offline market. As a result, mobile phone brands are opening more retail stores across Vietnam. Major distributors in Vietnam continue to build new brick-and-mortar stores of mainstream mobile phone brands that contribute most of their sales, as evidenced by Samsung and Apple at the top of the shipping list. Akash Jatwala, a research analyst, said: "shipments of phones in the price range of high-end models (> $400, about 2736 yuan) are up about 75 per cent year-on-year, driven by the iPhone 11Grai iPhone 13 Pro Max and Galaxy S series. Vietnamese consumers have shown great enthusiasm for high-end smartphones. In addition, Apple recently lowered the price of the old iPhone in Vietnam, making it one of the cheapest iPhone in the world. Vietnam is becoming one of Apple's major markets in Southeast Asia. "
The major mobile phone brand manufacturers are taking more and more related activities in the field of smartphone manufacturing, and at the same time they are also starting to increase their investment in Vietnam. Xiaomi, for example, is already working with DBG Technology to make smartphones in Vietnam, while Apple's partner Foxconn is producing AirPods and iPad at factories in northern Vietnam to increase Apple's product line. Samsung, which makes most smartphones in Vietnam, plans to increase investment in Vietnam while expanding its mobile phone supply chain.
