The SSD has sequential read and write speeds of up to 7450 MB/s and 6900MB/s, and random read and write speeds of 1400K and 1550K IOPS, respectively. Compared with 980 PRO, the random read and write performance of 990 PRO is improved by 55%.

Samsung said that the 990 PRO with NVMe technology can reduce the game loading time of the PC and console, thus providing a more immersive gaming experience. Luminous Productions's upcoming action role-playing game, Forspoken, supports new game loading technology. When tested with the game, the load time for maps is reduced to about 1 second, compared with 4 seconds for SATA SSD and 28 seconds for mechanical hard drive (HDD).

In addition, Samsung's newly designed controller greatly improves the energy efficiency of the SSD, up to 50% compared with the 980 PRO. In addition, the 990 PRO adds a nickel coating to the controller and uses a label heatsink on the hard drive to ensure reliable thermal management. The 990 PRO (heatsink version) also provides an extra layer of thermal control, while its RGB lighting is more stylish.

The 990 PRO will go on sale worldwide in November. The 1TB model will retail for $179 (about 1224.36 yuan), the 2TB version will retail for $309 (about 2113.56 yuan), and the 4TB model will be launched next year.
