Beijing time on August 25 morning news, Snapchat parent company Snap reportedly settled a privacy class action lawsuit in Illinois for $35 million (about 239 million yuan).

Plaintiffs argue Snap filters violate the Illinois Biometric Information Privacy Act. Users who have used Snap filters since November 17, 2015 may be eligible for compensation. According to media estimates, individuals may receive $58 -117 in compensation.

Snap believes its AR Lenses are not violating BIPA because it does not collect biometric data, which can only be directed to specific individuals.

Illinois privacy laws also target companies like Facebook and Google. Earlier this year, Google settled a lawsuit in Illinois for $100 million, mainly related to Google Photos facial recognition.
