Beijing, Aug. 24 (Xinhua) on Wednesday, local time, Tesla's lawyer urged a California judge to dismiss a California civil rights agency's allegation of racial discrimination and harassment at the Tesla Fremont factory.

California High Court Judge Evellio Grilo (Evelio Grillo) will hold a hearing in Oakland on Tesla's dismissal of the State Department of Civil Rights (DCR) lawsuit. Tesla said the racial discrimination case was "politically motivated" and denied that the company had acted improperly to its employees.

In a lawsuit filed in February, DCR said there was evidence that Tesla's Fremont factory was a "segregated workplace" and that black workers were discriminated against in terms of task, discipline and pay.

In the motion to reject the DCR case, Tesla said the civil rights agency had violated the state's laws by filing a lawsuit without prior notice or providing an opportunity for settlement.

It is understood that Owen Diaz, a former black contractor at Tesla, had sued Tesla in 2017, claiming that he had been "racially abused" at his factory in Northern California. In October 2021, the jury awarded $137 million (920 million yuan) in damages, but in April this year, San Francisco District Judge William O'Rick reduced the award to $15 million.
