Beijing, August 24 (Xinhua) Meta has reached an agreement to settle with a $37.5 million settlement after it violated users' privacy and suffered a class action lawsuit by collecting users' mobile data through smartphones without permission. The preliminary settlement has been submitted to the Federal Court of San Francisco and requires the permission of the judge.

Users collect data even if they turn off the Location Services,Meta of their mobile devices, in violation of California law. Users point out that although they are reluctant to share location information with Facebook, Facebook uses IP addresses to infer users' locations and then sends targeted ads to users.

Monday's settlement mainly covers Americans who use Facebook after January 30, 2015. In a speech to Congress in June 2018, Zuckerberg said the company would use location information to help advertisers reach users in specific areas.
