Chip sales have cooled more than previously expected, according to Bloomberg. The World Bureau of Semiconductor Trade Statistics lowered the market outlook for chip sales to 13.9% this year from 16.3% before. By 2023, it expects chip sales to grow by just 4.6%, the slowest pace since 2019.

WSTS said the market is still expected to exceed $600 billion this year. Next year's growth is expected to be the lowest since sales fell 12 per cent at the peak of the Sino-US trade war.

As households and companies increasingly rely on digital devices and online services to consume and expand, chip sales are an important indicator of global economic activity.

Japan is likely to see the strongest sales growth of 5 per cent next year, followed by 4.8 per cent in the Americas, 4.7 per cent in the Asia-Pacific region and just 3.2 per cent in Europe, according to WSTS.

The International Monetary Fund lowered its global growth forecast last month and said 2023 could be harder than this year. The Bloomberg economic model shows a 100% chance of a recession in the United States over the next 24 months.
