Shulou(Shulou.com)11/24 Report--

CTOnews.com, August 23 (Xinhua)-- Samsung Germany advised users to destroy 980 Pro SSD hard drives in the name of data security when communicating with a consumer after sale, according to a report from Igor's Lab.

A user on the Igor's Lab forum claimed that his Samsung 980 Pro 2TB hard drive crashed and Samsung Magician's diagnostic scan showed several red errors in the NAND flash memory, so he applied for a return.

Samsung's customer service in Germany said in after-sales that it would grant users the full right to destroy the hard drive before sending it to Samsung to complete the RMA (material return Review) process. Samsung customer service even details how to destroy the hard drive and advises users to use an electric drill or hammer to destroy the hard drive.

Samsung also said that users need to take photos or video recordings when destroying the hard drive to ensure that there are no other changes on the way to Samsung's factory, thus protecting user data.

So this inexpensive Samsung 980 Pro 2TB hard drive was "killed" in this way.

CTOnews.com learned that because simply deleting hard disk files does not completely erase data, users need to rewrite a large number of files for the hard drive, which is time-consuming and laborious, and Samsung is giving users a more direct option.
