On August 22, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology announced "Economic Operation of the Communications Industry from January to July 2022". By the end of July, the three basic telecommunications enterprises had developed 1.667 billion cellular end-users of the Internet of things, compared with the total number of 1.672 billion mobile phone users. the scale difference between the two has been reduced to 5 million.

According to the statistical bulletin of the communications industry in 2021, by the end of 2021, there are 1.399 billion cellular Internet of things users in China, rapidly approaching the scale of mobile phone users, and the gap between them has rapidly narrowed from 458 million in 2020 to 244 million in 2021.

From May to July this year, there is a difference between the number of domestic mobile phone users and the number of cellular Internet of things terminal users by 67.51 million, 29.49 million and 5 million respectively.

In the first seven months, the number of end-users of the cellular Internet of things increased by 268 million, with an average monthly increase of 38.286 million. Therefore, the scale of the cellular Internet of things in China in August is expected to usher in an important moment to surpass the number of mobile phone users.

At the end of last year, Internet of things terminals in China were widely used in intelligent public utilities, intelligent manufacturing, intelligent transportation and other fields, with 314 million, 254 million and 218 million Internet of things terminals deployed in these three key areas respectively.

In the 2020 Mobile report, GSMA predicts that by 2024, the volume of the Internet of things in enterprises will exceed that of consumer Internet of things. It is estimated that by 2030, there will be 13 times more Internet of things devices than in 2020.
