Shulou(Shulou.com)11/24 Report--
CTOnews.com8, March 23, with the continuous development of electric vehicle technology, many users choose to buy electric vehicles to meet their daily travel needs. According to the analysis of China's passenger car market in July 2022 released by the Federation of passengers, the wholesale sales of new energy passenger vehicles reached 564000 in July, an increase of 123.7% over the same period last year.
Although the sales of electric vehicles are getting higher and higher, there are still many users who have doubts about electric vehicles, the main doubt is that electric vehicles take a long time to recharge. Compared with the replenishment time of traditional fuel vehicles by minutes, the charging time of electric vehicles often needs to be timed by hours. However, a research team has announced that it has designed a new charging technology that can greatly reduce the charging time of electric vehicles.
At today's fall meeting of the American Chemical Society, a research team at the Idaho National Laboratory used machine learning technology to integrate charging data to create a unique charging protocol, according to the ACS website. Dr Eric Dufek, of the team, said the new method significantly increased the battery charging speed, which could reach more than 90 per cent in 10 minutes without lithium plating or cathode cracking. This means that the charging speed of electric vehicles is expected to be the same as that of refueling.
It is reported that when the lithium-ion battery is charged, the lithium ion will be transferred from one side of the device (cathode) to the other side (anode). The faster the lithium ion migrates, the faster the charging speed, but too fast migration speed may lead to lithium ion not fully migrated into the anode, leading to battery failure. By inputting a lot of information about the status of lithium-ion batteries during charging and discharging cycles, the research team trained machine learning analysis to predict battery life and the results of different designs. In the end, the team optimized a new charging protocol.
CTOnews.com learned that the research team hopes to further improve the charging speed and design lithium-ion batteries that can be charged quickly. The ultimate goal, says Dr Dufik, is to enable electric cars to "tell" how charging stations can power their specific batteries quickly and safely.
