CTOnews.com August 23, Microsoft is expected to release new Windows 11 22H2 feature updates in September or October this year, but so far Microsoft has not announced a public / commercial name or release date.

The next feature update for Windows 11 is internally known as "version 22H2" and "Sun Valley 2 / SV2".

A new reference in the Microsoft getting started application indicates that the update may be called "Windows 11 2022 Update". As you can see in the screenshot below, a promotional message appears when you open the getting started application.

The message reads "you are now running the Windows 11 2022 update, continue to read to discover new features and set them up according to your preferences." Of course, the application will not provide additional details when the button is clicked now.

It is worth noting that the name of "Windows 11 2022 Update" has not yet been finalized.

Microsoft has confirmed that Build 22621 is the RTM / final version of Windows 11 22H2, and there are reports that the update could be released as early as September 20 for the first wave of devices.

As with all previous feature updates, it will be available in Windows Update for new hardware first, which users can download by clicking the download / install button. These users are officially considered "explorers", that is, those who are willing to try to update before the automatic launch.

Microsoft may plan to accelerate push in October and November because it will get more feedback from early users.

CTOnews.com has been informed that in terms of new features, Windows 11 22H2 will restore the much anticipated "drag and drop" support for the taskbar. It will also come with a redesigned task manager that will use WinUI and Fluent Design, including Mica and Acrylic materials.

This feature update also includes improvements to the start menu, a faster context menu, desktop Windows Spotlight, and tag support in File Explorer (expected to be released after 22H2).
