Russian retailers say this should increase the awareness of Russian brands in the consumer sector. But electronics manufacturers stress that in addition to marketing support, they also need preferential loans to produce a large number of products, which cannot compete with foreign products in price.

According to a businessman source in the Russian government, the Digital Ministry, together with major Russian electronics manufacturers (Aquarius, Yadro, ICL) and retailers (M.Video, DNS), is discussing the possibility of establishing Russian equipment retail, mainly tablets, laptops and system units. According to preliminary estimates, a subsidy of about 1 billion rubles (about 115 million yuan) is needed each year.

CTOnews.com learned that Russian computer makers had previously focused on producing equipment for companies and the public sector. Maxim Koposov, director of Promobit, who developed the Bitblaze laptop in 2022, explained that it was difficult to sell laptops assembled in Russia because of the high price. In the case of small-scale production, thousands of batches cannot compete with well-known brands.

In June, Denis Manturov, head of Russia's Ministry of Industry and Trade, said the Russian government had approved a "pilot model" of 500m roubles (about Rmb57.5 million) to support companies to advertise in the media.

The Ministry of Industry and Trade told the Merchant Daily that screening would be conducted from August 18 to September 29 and advertising would be subsidized through ANO's "national priorities". The department did not say whether advertisements for laptops and tablets fell into this category, saying only that manufacturers could apply.

A "businessman" source in the market said that laptop manufacturers have repeatedly called on the Ministry of Industry and Trade to clarify whether this support measure applies to them, but has not yet received a reply.
