Research company MarkLines recently released the global ranking of new car sales in the first half of 2022 (January to June), and Toyota retained its first place for three years in a row, but the change in the ranking of the industry with pure electric vehicles as the core has begun, according to Ji Weibo.

Tesla's sales reached 560000, leaping to 17th place from the top 20 last year. BYD, which focuses on pure electric vehicles, jumped to 14th place with sales of 640000 vehicles.

At the top of the list, Toyota's group's global sales, which include Daihatsu and Hino, fell 6% year-on-year to 5.13 million vehicles. Toyota's Asian market grew 3 per cent to 1.56 million vehicles, while sales fell in North America (down 17 per cent) and Japan (down 19 per cent).

Volkswagen's sales, in second place, fell 22% to 3.87 million vehicles. Compared with Toyota, Volkswagen is more dependent on the Chinese market and has a great influence, according to analysts on Nikkei Chinese website.

South Korea's Hyundai Motor Group (including Kia) fell by 7%, a relatively small decline, leaping into third place. Analysts said strong sales of models with a relatively small number of semiconductors reduced the impact.

Tesla and BYD's sales have expanded significantly, pure electric vehicles (EV) companies' sense of presence in new car sales is increasing, on the other hand, other large manufacturers are facing a grim situation.

"Jipang: this year, the global sales of Q2 new energy vehicles reached 2.19 million, Tesla ranked first, and the market share of BYD rose to 11.2%."
