CTOnews.com, August 21, according to the Taiwan Central News Agency, Kaiji Investment Technology Industry analysts released a research report pointing out that laptop inventory adjustment will continue until the end of the fourth quarter of this year or even the first half of next year, and is optimistic that iPhone and server supply chain will play a role in the growth momentum in the second half of this year.

The report pointed out that due to the devaluation of the New Taiwan dollar and improved product mix, most IT hardware manufacturers made higher-than-expected profits in the second quarter of this year, but personal computer (PC) brand manufacturers, motherboards and graphics card manufacturers did not perform as expected.

Among the top five laptop contract manufacturers, Quanta shipments are expected to grow by more than 20 per cent in the third quarter of this year compared with the same period last year, mainly due to strong demand for MacBook, offsetting weak demand for Chromebook. Compal shipments are likely to decline month-on-quarter in the third quarter because of falling demand for commercial laptops.

Kaiji expects shipments of the top five power generation factories to grow by an average of 7% to 8% month-on-month in the third quarter, down 19% from a year earlier, and single-digit growth in the fourth quarter, but down 20% from a year earlier. It is estimated that the shipments of the top five power generation factories for the whole year will be 17% lower than the same period last year.

CTOnews.com learned that analysts said that despite the increase in inventory days in the laptop supply chain, server inventory was relatively healthy. The overall inventory days of the server supply chain decreased from 100 days in the first quarter of this year to 87 days in the second quarter.

In addition, the inventory days of some iPhone suppliers increased in the second quarter of this year, which may prepare iPhone 14 for mass production. Kaiji still expects that the launch of new iPhone 14 products in the third quarter of this year will lead to demand growth in the second half of this year, which will be good for supply chain momentum, maintaining the view that iPhone shipments will increase by about 10 per cent in the second half of this year compared with the first half.
