August 21 (Xinhua)-- A cargo ship owned by the US space company SpaceX sent 4000 pounds (1814 kilograms) of scientific experiments and equipment back to Earth from the International Space Station and splashed down on the coast of Florida on Saturday.

After more than a month's stay at the International Space Station, the unmanned dragon spacecraft splashed down on the Florida coast at 02:53 EDT on August 20.

"the Dragon spacecraft has been confirmed to splash down, completing SpaceX's 25th cargo resupply mission to the International Space Station," SpaceX announced on personal social media Twitter.

"after the Dragon spacecraft is recovered by SpaceX's recycling team, the key scientific facilities on board will be transported by helicopter to NASA's Kennedy Space Center and handed over to researchers," the company added in another tweet.

On July 14, SpaceX launched the dragon spacecraft from the Kennedy Space Center for the 25th cargo resupply mission, and the spacecraft arrived at the International Space Station two days later. The spacecraft delivered 5800 pounds (2630 kilograms) of scientific experimental equipment, crew supplies and other cargo to the International Space Station.

The dragon spacecraft separated from the International Space Station on Friday and is scheduled to return to Earth on Saturday. The cargo carried by the spacecraft includes the results of some experiments on the International Space Station.

Under a multibillion-dollar contract with NASA, SpaceX's dragon spacecraft is used to transport supplies to and from the International Space Station. SpaceX is one of two American companies currently carrying out cargo resupply missions on the International Space Station, while Northrop Grumman uses Cygnus cargo ships for resupply missions. In addition to these two companies, Sierra Nevada Space Systems plans to provide similar services to NASA with Dreampursuer space aircraft.

In addition to the above-mentioned US companies, Russia's "Progress" unmanned spaceship also carries out regular cargo supply missions, and the European Space Agency and Japan have also launched cargo ships in the past.

The International Space Station currently has seven astronauts, including three American astronauts, three Russian astronauts and one European astronaut. Four of the astronauts on the Crew-4 mission arrived at the International Space Station in SpaceX's manned dragon spacecraft.

SpaceX will also send crew members of NASA's Crew-5 space mission to the International Space Station in September this year.
