CTOnews.com August 11, Microsoft today released Visual Studio 2022 version 17.4 Preview 1 (download here), which is also available as a native Arm64 application. It will also be the third long service channel (LTSC) version to be supported within 18 months from the date of release.

The first Visual Studio installer introduced in Visual Studio 2022 version 17.4 preview 1 includes two new features: rollback and removal of out-of-support components

A rollback returns Visual Studio to the version that was installed before the update was last applied. It retains any changes made to the selected component since the last update. Local customizations, such as user settings and profiles, are deleted. However, common synchronization settings, such as themes, fonts, key bindings, and window layouts, are restored.

So far, you will be able to roll back to the components and shared components that come with the VS instance, such as SDK and tools owned and managed only by VS. Each computer extension, system-wide components, and tools that are not managed by Visual Studio will remain in the current release. However, the per-user extension will be uninstalled.

The following table outlines the types of components supported by the rollback feature. As a general rule of thumb, the components installed and used by VS are included in the rollback attempt.
