Thanks to CTOnews.com netizens Patrick_Tien, Yichen, Microsoft to fear, Miscaver clue delivery! CTOnews.com8, March 11, according to THE VERGE, Microsoft today announced that it will open up more than 1500 of its 3D Emoji models, allowing creators to use these materials for free. Microsoft hopes this will encourage more creativity and inclusiveness in Emoji.

Microsoft released the Microsoft Emoji library in Windows 11 released last year, and released a 3D version in Microsoft Teams in February this year, but Microsoft initially did not intend to open source it.

"at the beginning of the project, we focused on designing Microsoft Emoji, but in the course of the project, we came up with the idea of open source," Jon Friedman, Microsoft vice president of design and research, told The Verge. This is consistent with our belief and view that the more open source we open source, the better the products we can build and the more services we can provide to all mankind.

When building the Microsoft Emoji library, the Microsoft team spent a lot of time improving its inclusiveness to meet the Emoji needs of different races and countries. In the end, Microsoft designed 1538 Emoji, and can customize the skin color, color saturation and so on. It is worth mentioning that Clippy was also introduced as an alternative to the standard paper clip Emoji, but the Emoji is one of the few Emoji that is not open source due to Microsoft trademark legal requirements.

Microsoft wants creators to explore more ways to use its emoticons. "within Microsoft, we are a small team that can only do so much or see so much," Friedman explains. "We are eager to get more people involved, help us see and do more things, and bring Emoji to places we can't foresee."

Specifically, creators can reassemble Microsoft Emoji or create a new Emoji based on it. Friedman says that when his team designed the app icon a few years ago, someone created the Marvel version of the app icon, and what they wanted was this great creative expression.

Currently, Microsoft has made most of the Emoji in its Emoji library (with 1538 Emoji) open source on Figma and Github for users to use.

CTOnews.com learned that Microsoft unveiled a new emoji emoji system on systems such as Windows 11 on July 15 last year, and its Emoji uses Fluent fluent design + 3D image.
