The company expects to perform an average of about three transportation missions a year, all of which are in sun-synchronous orbit, but occasionally carpool with Starlink and other launch missions.

McLachlan said that although the gear is full recently, there should be some opportunities for some "stuck" passengers to find the last seat. He said SpaceX has customers who have booked a sun-synchronous orbit mission until 2025 at the latest. There are also carpooling opportunities for geostationary transfer orbits and lunar missions.

CTOnews.com has learned that these "carpooling" missions have been using Falcon 9, but McLachlan said SpaceX is considering using larger starships to carpool.
