Shulou(Shulou.com)11/24 Report--

CTOnews.com, August 10 (Xinhua)-- realme has become the second largest smartphone maker in India, despite the continued downturn in the country's smartphone market. The Indian market also continued to decline in the June quarter, according to the latest quarterly device tracking report from market research firm IDC. Despite a 2.9 per cent year-on-year increase in device shipments to 34.7 million units in the quarter, compared with 33.8 million Q2 units in 2021, the Indian smartphone market has seen a 5 per cent month-on-month decline, according to the company.

At the same time, Chinese smartphone OEM makers realme and vivo are the biggest winners-despite the headwind. Realme shipped 6.1 million smartphones in India in the second quarter of 2022, up 23.7 per cent, while vivo shipped 5.9 million units in the same quarter, up 17.4 per cent from a year earlier. This helped realme to become the second largest smartphone brand in India, after Xiaomi. Xiaomi is currently the largest smartphone brand in India, successfully ranking first in the market, but its profit margin is much lower than before.

Xiaomi shipments fell 28.2% to 7.1 million units in the second quarter of 2022, according to IDC. Two years ago, in the second quarter of 2020, Xiaomi shipped three times as many devices as realme India. At that time, the gap between Xiaomi and realme was close to 20 percentage points, but now it is less than 3 percentage points. This further highlights the strong growth of realme in India, where Xiaomi's shipments are actually higher than they were two years ago.
