Beijing, August 10 (Xinhua) Facebook's parent company, Meta, said on Tuesday that it had raised $10 billion in its initial bond offering, the first time Meta has issued bonds with maturities ranging from 5 to 40 years. Meta will use the money to buy back shares and invest in improving its business.

Meta's cash reserves are dwindling, and issuing bonds can make finances healthier and provide ammunition for expensive investments, such as metacosmos VR and Reels short videos, which are expensive.

At the beginning of the year, US interest rates were uncertain and the corporate bond market was in the doldrums, and now it is starting to recover, which provides a good time window for Meta. Investors hope that the Fed will have an effect on reducing inflation by raising interest rates aggressively, so they have piled into the bond market.

Earlier, Apple and Intel issued bonds, raising $5.5 billion and $6 billion, respectively.

Meta's free cash flow for the second quarter ended June 30 was $4.45 billion, compared with $8.51 billion a year earlier.
