CTOnews.com August 9, Tianfeng International analyst Guo Mingyi said today that Apple will launch USB-C-enabled charging boxes for all AirPods in 2023. However, the new AirPods Pro 2 charging box launched in the second half of this year may still support the Lightning interface.

This is not the first time Guo Mingyi has revealed that the future AirPods will be recharged using USB-C. In May, Guo Mingyi revealed that the AirPods and other Apple accessories will also switch to the USB-C interface with the iPhone, including the keyboard, panel and mouse for the Mac, and the MagSafe battery pack for the iPhone.

In addition, both Guo Mingyi and Bloomberg technology journalist Mark Gurman said Apple will also transition to the USB-C interface for the iPhone 15 series in 2023. According to these revelations, Apple is expected to set 2023 as a time point to change the interface, marking the end of the Lightning interface.

CTOnews.com has learned that EU legislation requires all smartphones and accessories to be recharged using the USB-C interface from the fall of 2024. The Verge said the agreement had the biggest impact on Apple because it was the only large smartphone maker that still uses proprietary rather than USB-C interfaces. In 2021, Apple sold 241m iPhone units worldwide, of which about 5600 million were sold in Europe.
