This script supports IIS 6.0and IIS 7.0backup and works on all versions of Windows that support SharePoint (client and server) and have PowerShell.

SP backup consists of two parts: the script itself and a XML configuration file, which the script parses to obtain information such as the backup destination (which can be a local path or server share). The two files need to be placed in the same directory, but it is entirely up to you to decide which directory they belong to.

Of course, you will need to edit the XML file to provide the appropriate parameters for your server. Some of the parameters are internal to the script and are explained only in the script's file. For example, the backup target * retention period parameter allows you to specify how many days the old backup can be retained before it is automatically deleted.

You can also set parameters to allow you to send an email and a description of the events that occurred during the backup at the end of the work. Other parameters allow you to specify a password for decrypting IIS 6.0metadata, so you can choose to store or perform a catastrophic backup on another server (the same full SharePoint backup as the Central Administration path).

Another report is also logged into the console, but there is no ready-made provision in the script to write the report to the system log. To be honest, it doesn't seem difficult to log results by using the send email function in scripting and writing event log commands. In addition, an additional feature that users require is the ability to back up GAC folders and virtual directories without performing a full advance backup (a documented process).

Note that the options exposed by the script do not make up a complete list of options available through stsadm.exe, which performs backup operations for SharePoint itself. An option that is completely useless.

Is a backup thread, and although it is recommended that those running SharePoint Server 2007 set it to 3 to increase efficiency, its default value is 1.
