How to deal with many cab_xxx_x files under windows temp
The C disk of the reinstalled system these two days has more free space from 11G to 2G, which consumes very quickly. So checked the problem, found that C:/Windows/Temp under a lot of cab_xxx_x files, statistics under nearly 10G, my God, what's going on?
Recently, nothing has been done except that the newly installed system is constantly patched and updated, and it is in the windows/temp folder, that's the problem. Check the relevant information, these files can be deleted. As shown in the figure:
I don't know what these numbers mean.
Cab_148,cab_972_
My solution to violence:
Delete
C:\ WINDOWS\ TEMP\ cab_XXX_X (figure above)
C:\ WINDOWS\ log\ CBS\ CbsPersist_xxxxxxxxxxx.Log
C:\ WINDOWS\ log\ CBS\ CbsPersist_xxxxxxxxxxx.Cab
The complete solution is as follows:
Recently, I found that disk C always indicates a shortage of space (shown in red). After cleaning the\ Windows\ Temp folder of the system disk, I found a lot of cab files with file names similar to cab_xxxx_x, which probably took up five or six gigabytes of space. I didn't pay much attention to it at that time, so I deleted it directly.
Until just now, it was found that there was another multi-G similar file. I had to pay attention to this file. After searching for it, I found the root of the problem and recorded it here.
The most detailed answer is here:
To put it simply, this problem is caused by a very large Component-Based Servicing log file, which is located in C:\ Windows\ Logs\ CBS.
The root cause is that if the cbs.log exceeds a certain size, a cleaning process will rename it and compress the renamed file into a .cab file, but if the file size exceeds 2G before compression, the compression will fail, and after the failure, a temporary cab_xxxx_x file will be generated under the temp folder (the size of this file will vary on different computers. But on the same computer is certain, my computer is 133MB, others are 40MB, some are 100MB), and this process will continue to run, resulting in a large number of temporary cab_xxxx_x files.
The complete solution is:
Stop the Windows Modules Installer (TrustedInstaller) service
Delete or move the large Cbspersist_XX.log file out of\ Windows\ Logs\ CBS.
Start the Windows Modules Installer (TrustedInstaller) service
Delete all files at the beginning of C disk windows\ temp\ cab_xxx_xxxx
Note: looks like the bug of Windows 7 and Windows 2008 R2, not found in Windows 10
