This article mainly explains "how to use Live USB for Ubuntu partition". The explanation content in this article is simple and clear, easy to learn and understand. Please follow the ideas of Xiaobian slowly and deeply to study and learn "how to use Live USB for Ubuntu partition" together!
Ubuntu 10.04 has already met with everyone, and many users have joined the ranks of Ubuntu fans. Open source technology is amazing when you use it. Before we go into depth, let us first understand the Ubuntu partition, hoping to help you.
Since using Ubuntu, I found that the dependence on Windows is getting smaller and smaller. Two days ago, I deleted Vista. Now there is only Ubuntu in the system, so I want to transfer Ubuntu from partition 3 to partition 1 when installing it. The results of the experiment are as follows: Declaration: I only discuss technical problems, such as the resulting loss of data and other problems do not assume any responsibility.
My configuration: Partition:
◆sda1 original Vista.
There are two logical partitions (sda5,sda6) under the sda2 extended partition.
◆sda3 Ubuntu partition.
Sda4 Swap partition.
Boot from LiveUSB(LiveCD).
Use LiveUSB tools and installation images of existing systems to make LiveUSB. Of course, you can also use LiveCD. LiveUSB is recommended (LiveCD may not be able to create directories when mounting partitions). Select your boot device in the boot options (use Del key or F2 key or F12 key to enter boot options, depending on the machine).
Mount SDA1 and SDA3.
This has nothing to say, you can mount it in the file browser, you can also manually use the mount command
Move files.
cp -ax /media/Partition3/* /media/Partition1/ "Partition1" is the directory mounted by sda1,"Partition3" is the directory mounted by sda3, adding-ax parameter can ensure that the attributes are preserved during replication.
Reload grub.
The purpose of this step is to ensure that grub looks for menu.lst files from sda1, not the original sda3. Methods: Still on LiveUSB, open the terminal, enter sudo grub command, it may take a while, and then grub> prompt appears; enter find /boot/grub/stage1, if there are two items (hd0,0) (hd0,2), it means that you copy no problem; then enter: root (hd0,0), indicating that the boot partition is the 0th partition on the 0th hard disk.(0 for 1, 1 for 2, and so on in grub); then type: setup (hd0) to install grub on disk 0.
Modify menu.lst.
◆ This step is the most critical, is the key to whether the new system can be started. Open the terminal;
◆ Renaming the original menu.lst: in the terminal, enter the/boot/grub directory under the partition 3 directory, use sudo mv menu.lst newfilename to rename menu.lst (newfilename is any other name) cd command to enter the/boot/grub directory under the sda1 mount directory;
◆ Check partition UUID: sudo ls -l /dev/disk/by-uuid, record the UUID of sda1 and sda3 (partition number sdx at the end of the line);
◆ Modify menu.lst: sudo cp menu.lst menu.lst. backupfile (backup menu.lst file) sudo gedit menu.lst on partition 1, replace the UUID of sda3 with the UUID of sda1, and then save it. Close gedit and terminal;
Note: Some people's grub may not use UUID to identify partitions. You can directly change/dev/sda3 in menu.lst to/dev/sda1.
Restart. Boot from hard drive (change back to your settings and no longer boot with LiveUSB)
If successful, enter any directory to view the remaining space, if consistent with the remaining space of the new partition, this step into the new partition, if you use it for a period of time without any problems, you can delete the original sda3 for other purposes. If it fails, restore menu.lst on partition 3 and reload grub using root (hd0,2) and setup (hd0) under grub command. If there are any Ubuntu partition problems, welcome to actively discuss them.
Thank you for reading, the above is "how to use Live USB Ubuntu partition" content, after the study of this article, I believe we have a deeper understanding of how to use Live USB Ubuntu partition this problem, the specific use of the situation also needs to be verified.
