­Greg Kroah-Hartman, a well-known kernel maintenance member, recently announced his return to be responsible for the maintenance of several long-supported Linux kernels. Today he officially announced the first maintenance update of the Linux Kernel 4.19 branch, which is marked as stable on the kernel.org website, meaning it is ready for most distributions.

­Linux Kernel 4.19.1 moderate update, 43 files modified, 199 insertions, 122 deletions, recommended for all users who want to run the latest and most powerful kernel to install. Greg Kroah-Hartman said: "Today I announce the official launch of the 4.19.1 kernel. Users of all 4.19 kernel branches must be upgraded. The upgraded 4.19.y git tree can access git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/stable/linux-stable.git linux-4.19.y, and users can access kernel.org through a regular browser to download: http://git.kernel.org/?p=linux/kernel/git/stable/linux-stable.git;a=summary"

­as Greg Kroah-Hartman confirmed to LTSI of the Linux Foundation not long ago, Linux 4.19 will be the next long-term support (LTS) release, meaning that maintenance updates will continue over the next few years.

The main new features of ­Linux 4.19 include:
