Less than a month after its release, EA declared Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order a success. Although the publisher didn't disclose any numbers, it did say that the title had more digital downloads than any other Star Wars game in the first two weeks of release. EA also said Fallen Order is the best PC product of all Star Wars games.

There are two caveats to this announcement. Start with the obvious: Learning Fallen is EA's fastest-selling game on PC, which is no surprise. In October, the publisher announced that it would start publishing its games on Steam again. On the PC side, there's no bigger market than Valve's platform.

Second, not every title needs to be a live service game to be financially successful. For an asset like Star Wars, that might be more accurate. Most fans probably don't always want to spend hundreds of hours in games like Destiny 2. Again, not every game requires microtransactions. In fact, their absence may attract some people to buy fallen orders.

Whether the initial success of Order of Fall heralds EA's growth as a company or the development of the entire gaming industry is hard to say. Just two years ago, the company shut down Dead Space founder Gut Games. At the time, developers were working on a single-player game called Star Wars. The company said it plans to continue developing the game, but at the same time will "tweak the design" to "provide an experience players want to come back to enjoy for the long term." If so, the order of promotions and demotions may be the exception rather than the rule.
