Shulou(Shulou.com)06/02 Report--
Editor to share with you whether apache belongs to open source software. I hope you will gain a lot after reading this article. Let's discuss it together.
Is apache open source software?
Apache is open source software. The Apache Software Foundation (Apache Software Foundation) is a non-profit organization that supports the Apache community that runs an open source software project known as the Apache project. The organization sees itself as a community of developers and users with the same goals, rather than simply sharing a set of projects on a server. In the Apache projects and subprojects it supports, the released software products follow the Apache license (Apache License).
Apache Software Foundation (ASF) officially, its "Apache organization" has existed for a long time before 1999. Developers of this organization gathered together to develop and maintain a HTTP server called Apache on the basis of the NCSA HTTPd server developed by the National Center for supercomputer applications (National Center for Supercomputing Applications) of the University of Illinois (NCSA) in the United States.
The NCSA HTTPd server was originally developed by Rob McCool, but its initial developers gradually lost interest in the software and moved to other places, resulting in no one to provide more technical support for the server software. Because the function of this server is so powerful, and the code can be downloaded, modified and released freely, at that time, some enthusiasts and users of this server software began to spontaneously communicate with each other and distribute their own revised versions of the software. and constantly improve its function.
In order to communicate better, Brian Behlendorf set up a mailing list itself, using it as a medium for the group (or community) to exchange technology and maintain software, and effectively organize code rewriting and maintenance. These developers have come to call their group the "Apache Organization" and the constantly modified and improved server software as Apache Server (Apache Server).
The name comes from a native North American Indian tribe known for its military prowess and superhuman endurance that rebelled against invaders who invaded their territory in the second half of the 19th century. To show respect for this Indian tribe, the name of the tribe (Apache) is used as the server name. But when it comes to this name, there is also an interesting story.
Because this server is based on the NCSA HTTPd server, through everyone's efforts, constantly modify, Patchy (patch) product, is jokingly called "A Patchy Server" (a patch server). Here, because "Patchy" and "Apache" are homonyms, it is finally officially named "Apache Server".
Later, due to the continuous expansion of business demand, taking the Apache HTTP server as the center, more parallel projects with Apache projects were launched, such as mod_ perl, PHP, Java Apache and so on. As time goes by and the situation changes, the Apache Software Foundation's project list is constantly updated-new project launches, project suspensions, and project splits and mergers.
For example, Jakarta started as a Java Apache project to develop JAVA containers, and later, as a result of the suggestion of SUN, the project name was changed to Jakarta. But at that time, the managers of the project did not expect that the Jakarta project developed from the popularity of JAVA to a project that now includes many open source software subprojects based on the JAVA language. Later, individual projects have to be separated from Jakarta and become the top projects of the Apache Software Foundation, and the Struts project is one of them.
Recently, in order to avoid disputes between SCO and the UNIX open source community, the Apache Software Foundation (ASF). The Apache Software Foundation (ASF) has begun to take steps to make a large number of projects more coordinated and structured management, and to protect their legitimate interests from potential legal violations (potential legal attacks).
For its outstanding contribution to open source server technology, the Apache Software Foundation won the 2013 SD Times 100th award from SD Times, a famous IT magazine, ranking second in the "great impact" category, second only to Amazon. Also because of hadoop's outstanding performance in big data processing and big data mining, ASF also won the second place in "big data and Business Intelligence".
