The name comes from a native North American Indian tribe known for its military prowess and superhuman endurance that rebelled against invaders who invaded their territory in the second half of the 19th century. To show respect for this Indian tribe, the name of the tribe (Apache) is used as the server name. But when it comes to this name, there is also an interesting story.

Because this server is based on the NCSA HTTPd server, through everyone's efforts, constantly modify, Patchy (patch) product, is jokingly called "A Patchy Server" (a patch server). Here, because "Patchy" and "Apache" are homonyms, it is finally officially named "Apache Server".

Later, individual projects have to be separated from Jakarta and become the top projects of the Apache Software Foundation, and the Struts project is one of them.
