Shulou(Shulou.com)06/02 Report--
Editor to share with you which is faster than mbr or guid. I hope you will get something after reading this article. Let's discuss it together.
GPT and MBR are two sets of standards for disk partition tables. There is not much difference in speed between them. The main difference lies in scalability and security. But systems installed on GPT disks, whether win7 or win8, are faster to boot.
MBR (Main Boot Record master boot recording area) is located in track 0, track 0, cylinder 1, sector 1 of the entire hard disk. However, out of a total of 512 bytes in the main boot sector, MBR occupies only 446 bytes, and the other 64 bytes are given to DPT (the Disk Partition Table hard disk partition table) (see table), and the last two bytes "55PowerAA" is the end of the partition. This whole constitutes the main boot sector of the hard disk. The master boot record contains a series of parameters of the hard disk and a section of the boot program. The main function of the hard disk boot program is to check whether the partition table is correct and boot the operating system on the partition with activation flag after the system hardware self-test is completed, and hand over the control to the startup program. MBR is generated by partition programs such as Fdisk.exe, which does not depend on any operating system, and the hard disk bootstrap can be changed to achieve multi-system coexistence.
GPT means GUID partition table. (GUID means globally unique identifier). This is a new standard that is gradually replacing MBR. It and UEFI complement each other-UEFI is used to replace the old BIOS, while GPT replaces the old MBR. It is called a "GUID partition table" because each partition on your drive has a globally unique identifier (globally unique identifier,GUID)-a randomly generated string that ensures that every GPT partition on the planet is assigned a completely unique identifier.
GPT does not have the limitations of MBR. Disk drive capacity can be much larger than the operating system and file system can support. It also supports an almost unlimited number of partitions, limited only to the operating system-Windows supports up to 128GPT partitions, and you don't need to create extended partitions.
GPT and MBR are two sets of standards for disk partition tables. There is not much difference in speed between them. The main difference lies in scalability and security. But the system installed on GPT disk (guid partition table format) is faster to boot, whether it is win7 or win8.
Differences between guid and mbr formats:
1. The security of partition tables is different. MBR means "master boot record". It has its own initiator, that is, the boot code. once the boot code is broken, the system cannot be started, and the system can only be started through repair. On the other hand, the GUID partition table comes with its own backup, and a copy of the same partition table is saved at the beginning and end of the disk. After one of them is destroyed, it can be restored through the other.
2. Different disk capacities are supported. MBR partitioning scheme cannot support disks that exceed 2TB capacity, that is, 3TB hard drives are partitioned with MBR partitioning scheme, and 1/3 capacity will not be recognized. Partitioning with the GUID partition table (GPT) scheme can recognize the disk with the maximum 18EB (18X1024GB) capacity.
3. The number of zones is different. Hard drives that use MBR partition tables can only be divided into up to 4 primary partition disks, while the GPT partition table type is not limited by the number of partitions. The limitation is only in the operating system-Windows supports up to 128GPT partitions, and you don't need to create extended partitions.
4. The partition identity is different: GUID partition, each partition can have a name (different from the volume label).
After reading this article, I believe you have a certain understanding of which is faster between mbr and guid. If you want to know more about it, you are welcome to follow the industry information channel. Thank you for your reading!
