9.3 upgrade vCenter Server 5.5 to 6.0

Before upgrading vCenter Server 5.5, check that your vCenter Server 5.5 virtual machine has at least 8GB memory and 2 processors, as shown in figure 1-15. If the virtual machine where your vCenter Server is located does not meet the requirements, please modify the configuration of the virtual machine to meet the requirements.

After the conditions are met, load the installation CD (image) of vCenter Server 6.0, run the installation program of vCenter Server 6.0and start the upgrade, as follows.

[important] Please upload the installation image of vCenter Server to the storage of ESXi and load it with a virtual optical drive. Do not use the vCenter Server installation image of vSphere Client or vSphere Web Client. Otherwise, in the process of upgrading vCenter Server, the loaded image will lose its link because the vCenter Server service is stopped, which will cause the vCenter Server virtual machine to find the installation image and cause the upgrade to fail.

(1) install in vCenter Server 6. 0. Interface, select "vCenter Server for Windows" and click the "install" button, as shown in figure 1-16.

(2) in the "Welcome to VMware vCenter Server 6.0.0 setup" dialog box, the installer prompts "vCenter Single Sign-On 5.5 and vCenter Server 5.5 detected on this computer and will upgrade to vCenter Server 6.0.0 with embedded Platform Services Controller", click the "next" button, as shown in figure 1-17.

9.4 upgrade vSphere Client

After upgrading the vCenter Server, the corresponding vSphere Client will also be upgraded. Upgrading vSphere Client is easy. You can run the vSphere Client installer on the vCenter Server 6.0installation CD, or you can connect to vCenter Server using the original version, and you will be prompted to upgrade automatically.

Then go to the vCenter Server management interface and add a license for vCenter Server 6.

[note] if you use vSphere Web Client to manage vCenter Server, after upgrading to vCenter Server 6.0, upgrade the browser version used by the client (vSphere Web Client for managing vCenter Server or ESXi) to IE 10 or later. Using earlier versions of IE browsers will not be able to use vSphere Web Client 6.

If the management end and vCenter Server are not in the same network segment, when using vSphere Web Client, please use the name of the vCenter Server computer to log in. If the name cannot be resolved, you need to modify the local hosts file to resolve the name of vCenter Server to the IP address of vCenter Server, otherwise you cannot log in to vCenter Server with vSphere Web Client.
