In this environment, the ESXi in the vSphere acts as the operating system, creating two more virtual machines on it:

1) DNS server, 2GB of memory, 20g of hard disk

2) VCSA server, 10G memory, 150G hard disk

Since the VCSA server needs to create 13 disks and requires at least 10 gigabytes of memory, allocate as many physical resources as possible to the ESXi host. I allocated 22 GB of memory and 300 GB of hard disk to it.

The installation process is as follows:

Step 1: install the vSphere ESXi host in VMware Workstation 15 Pro

Step 2: start the ESXi host, open a browser, and log in to its Web Client

Step 3: deploy a CentOS 7 server to act as a DNS server in Web Client

Step 4: run the VCSA installer on the physical machine to install vCenter Server

The following will be divided into four parts to record the whole process of installation.

Step 1 install the ESXi host

This process is similar to installing a normal virtual machine in VMware. In fact, the ESXi native installed in this process is a compact operating system.

Step 2 Log in to vSphere Console

There are several ways to manage ESXi.

1) DCUI,direct console user interface, the equivalent of physical machine monitor + mouse + keyboard, can be translated as "directly connected console", which is the yellow-black interface above.

2) vSphere Web (Flex) Console, which needs to be logged in the browser, is a management interface developed with Adobe Flex and is about to be eliminated.

4) SSH remote management.

In fact, there are three management channels: the first path above (directly connected to the ESXi host), the second and third path above (login to vCenter Server), and the fourth path above (SSH remote login to the ESXi or vCenter host). The three locking modes of vSphere (lockdown mode) are designed to specify who can log in from which administrative channels. There is also an exception list in which users are not subject to L requests.

Step 3 install DNS server in vSphere Console step 4 launch and install VCSA from physical machine

VCSA- vCenter Server Appliance is the general name of VMware vCenter application software. It is a software that needs to be purchased separately, and it is also a node server deployed as a virtual machine, which can be used to virtualize the management node RHVM in the RHV. However, the installation process of VCSA is completely different from that of a normal virtual machine.

The physical machine I used was a laptop and the operating system was CentOS 7, so I chose the Linux version of the installer. Of course, there is also a Windows version of VCSA. It is said that in vSphere 7, the Windows version no longer exists. After running the installer program, a graphical interface pops up, and I choose "Install" to start the installation.

The installation process will be divided into two parts. You will then be prompted whether to install VCSA (vCenter Server Appliance) with PSC (platform service controller). In other words, there are two basic ways to deploy these two softwares. PSC is embedded in VCSA, and PSC and VCSA are deployed respectively. Combination is the recommended mode.
