There are a lot of new things happening around us, the current real-time hot spots and the hottest topics. We should charge more for ourselves, master more knowledge and make ourselves knowledgeable. At present, the Internet, technology and digital are closely related to our lives. Today, Bian Xiao sorted out some information and shared it with you.

Google, a subsidiary of Alphabet, has agreed to pay a settlement fee of about $200m to settle an investigation by the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) into alleged violations of child privacy laws on its video platform YouTube, and may announce a settlement agreement next week, according to foreign media reports.

It would be the largest fine imposed by a regulator for violating the Children's online Privacy Protection Act, but Google declined to comment.

Google was fined $200 million. According to public sources, Google has launched YouTube Kids, an app specially designed for children and teenagers on Google's video site YouTube, which focuses on child-friendly content. The purpose of this website is to create a safer environment for children to explore their own interests and curiosity, and to provide parents with tools to customize the experience for their children.

YouTubeKids targets three different age groups: preschool, 5-7 and 8-12, from which parents can choose what is appropriate for their children's age.

However, insiders complained to FTC that YouTube was suspected of collecting personal information about minors and using it to advertise without parents' consent, in violation of the Children's online Privacy Protection Act (Children's online Privacy Protection Act).

After the incident, some parents of their children expressed disbelief and even anger. At the same time, FTC attached great importance to the incident and punished Google for suspected violations of children's privacy laws. After negotiation, the two sides reached a settlement and Google agreed to pay a fine of $200 million.

"the Federal Trade Commission punished YouTube for violating users' online privacy," Democratic Senator Edmark said on Friday. "in this case, Google infringes on children's personal information, and we must crack down on companies that invade children's privacy."

It is understood that FTC adopted the settlement agreement by 3 votes in favor and 2 votes against, and sent the settlement agreement to the United States Department of Justice as part of the review process. Earlier, the Washington Post reported in July that a settlement had been reached, but did not specify the amount of money involved at that time.

Although this is the largest fine in history for violating the Children's online Privacy Protection regulations, some people in the industry say the penalty should be heavier. Katarina Kopp, deputy director of Digital Democracy Advertising Agency Center, said

"given the bad nature of Google's illegal activities and the extent to which they profit from illegal activities, combined with Google's size and revenue, the fine of about $200 million is pitifully small."

Attention should be paid to the privacy of children. In recent years, children's data privacy issues have occurred frequently at home and abroad, such as Facebook user data disclosure and Musical.ly privacy data disclosure.

Last October, several children's and consumer protection groups said Facebook illegally collected data on children / adolescents through Messenger Kids. To this end, 17 privacy protection organizations in the United States have submitted a letter of complaint to the Federal Trade Commission, asking it to conduct a thorough investigation into Facebook. Privacy organizations involved in the complaint include the Electronic Privacy Information Center and the American Consumer Union.

In February, FTC's three-year investigation of short music video App Musical.ly ended. FTC announced that the investigated company Musical.ly agreed to pay $5.7 million in settlement funds, and the two sides reached a formal settlement.

A spokesman for Douyin, Musical.ly 's actual operator, said that with the settlement with FTC, the company would further promote commercial exploration in the United States. This means that the FTC investigation that has plagued Douyin in North America for more than a year is over.

Things get terrible when the gun is pointed at the child. Although Google was fined $200m this time, far more than the $5.7 million paid by Musical.ly, it is hard to guarantee that it will not happen again.

Thousands of Android apps are suspected of violating the Children's online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA), according to a new study by the International Institute of computer Science. For example, researchers used automated tools to analyze 5855 Android apps labeled "children's or family software" and found that 3337 children's or home mobile apps illegally collected children's privacy information.

On the issue of children's online privacy protection, it has to be said that the relevant privacy protection measures need to be strengthened. In order to enable children to grow up healthily in a secure network environment, all departments should attach great importance to the protection of children's online privacy.
