The basic concept of 3.IRF

(1) role. Each device in IRF is called a member device, and the member device is divided into two roles according to its different functions.

Master: responsible for managing the entire IRFslave: runs as a backup device for the master. When the master fails, the system automatically selects a new master from the slave to replace the original master.

(2) IRF port: a logical interface for dedicated IRF, which is divided into IRF-Port1 and IRF-Port2. It takes effect after binding to IRF physical port.

(3) IRF physical port: the physical port on the device that can be used for IRF connection. The IRF port may be an IRF dedicated interface, Ethernet interface or optical port.

(4) IRF merging: two IRF have been running stably, and an IRF is formed through physical connection and necessary configuration. This process is IRF merging.

(5) IRF splitting: after an IRF is formed, two adjacent member devices in the IRF are physically disconnected due to the failure of the IRF link, and one IRF becomes two IRF. This process is called IRF splitting.
