During Rancher 1.x, alerts were something that many Rancher users wanted to integrate into their products, so during the Rancher 2.0 development phase, it was an important item in the Rancher development team's feature list.
Rancher 2.0 has been released, and the new version introduces a lot of cool new features, including cluster and workload alerts.
notification procedure
Rancher 2.0 's alerts feature allows users to create custom alerts and send them to multiple classes and back-end systems.
The first step is to create a notification program. Notifiers are created at the cluster level. Select the Tools drop-down menu, select Notifiers from the drop-down menu, and click Add Notifier. This will open a mode window where you can select from the following options.
After you select one of the options, you will then need to fill in the various configuration parameters associated with that option. For example, in the Slack example below, you can see a link showing how to configure the notification program.
After adding the valid information, you can try sending a test to the notifier. An example of a Slack notification is as follows:
There are other types of systems that receive notifications, all of which can be done via webhooks. Webhooks can send notifications to various systems that have their own workflows to handle specific alerts that have been triggered.
Cluster level alerts
Go back to the Tools drop-down menu and you'll see there's an option for Alerts. Rancher has some preconfigured alarms, but they are not triggered until they are associated with the notification program.
Associating alerts with notifiers is simple. You only need to edit alerts, set notifiers, and save them.
To create a new alert, simply click Add Alert and you will see the interface shown below:
As you can see, you can set various alarm related options that will be associated with system or user resources. At the cluster level, you can set alerts based on cluster-wide resources such as Nodes or actual Kubernetes components.
Workload level alerts
Workload level alarms need to be set in Project. In the drop-down list of Resources, there is an Alert menu item. Click Add here and you will see the following interface:
In Project alerts, you can set alerts related to the actual application workload. For example, you can set an alert notification if your service does not run at the scale you set, or if it restarts a certain number of times within a specified period of time.
At this point, the study of "how to use the alarm function integrated in Rancher 2.0" is over, hoping to solve everyone's doubts.
