SRV definition:

SRV is a type of resource record supported in the DNS server database, and SRV can record information about which computer provides which service.

SRV record:

SRV records are generally used when they are set for the active directory of Microsoft. DNS can be independent of active Directory, but active Directory must have DNS to work properly.

In order for the active Directory to work properly, the DNS server must support service location (SRV) resource records, which map the service name to the name of the server providing the service. Active Directory customers and domain controllers use SRV resource records to determine the IP address of the domain controller.

SRV recording function

'_ MSDCS. In this grouping, SRV records are collected based on their status. Various states include DC, domain invocation, GC, and PDC. DC and GC are divided by site so that AD clients can quickly know where to find local services. "Domain invocation" is used to support replication. Each DC gets a GUID, which is used when invoking replication. The PDC entry contains the SRV record of the DC that is set as the PDC simulator.

'_ SITES. The site represents a high-speed connection area, and after the DC index is established based on DC's site affiliation, clients can check _ SITES to find local services instead of sending their LDAP query requests through WAN. The standard LDAP query port is 389, while the global catalog query uses 3268.

'_ TCP. In this group, all the DC in the DNS area is collected. If clients cannot find their specific site, or if any DC with local SRV records is not responding, and need to look for DC elsewhere in the network, these clients should be placed in this group.

'_ UDP. Keberos v5 allows clients to use the connectionless service to obtain tickets and change passwords. This is done through the UDP port corresponding to the TCP port of the same service. Specifically, ticket exchange uses port 88 of UDP, while password change uses port 464.
