We already know something about IIS Lockdown 2.1. We know that IIS Lockdown 2.1 can be downloaded from http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/release.asp?releaseid=33961. After downloading, you get an IIS lockd.exe, double-click to run it, extract it to a temporary directory and start the IIS Lockdown wizard.

However, if you want to use IIS Lockdown to protect multiple servers, * extract it to a dedicated directory as described below, so that you don't have to recompress every time you run IIS Lockdown.

The use of IIS Lockdown is simple. Double-click to start IISlockd.exe, and the Internet Information Services Lockdown wizard appears. Follow the wizard's instructions step by step, and you will soon be able to add a lock to the Web server. First of all, the welcome screen appears, click "next" to display the end user license agreement screen, select the I Agree option, and click "next" to enter the server template selection dialog box, as shown in the figure.

In the figure 1 dialog box, select a template that is closest to the current server configuration, and this article assumes that the Static Web Server (static Web server) template is used. Select the View Template Settings option, and the wizard will display a series of dialogs about the template type. If this option is not selected, the wizard will skip these dialogs and go straight to the URLScan installation process.

Click "next" and the Internet Services dialog box appears, as shown in figure 2. This is a page that actually configures IIS locking options. IIS Lockdown can disable or delete four IIS services: HTTP,FTP,SMTP, and NNTP (Network News Transport Protocol, Network News Transport Protocol).
